As a training consultant, Mr. Rapone has over 32 years of experience in the design and delivery of education and training programs with government, non-profit, and corporate clients. He is the co-developer of The Smart Negotiator!® training program and has delivered it internationally in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, India and the United Kingdom. Mr. Rapone is an outstanding motivational speaker. His unique style captures the attention of the attendees while he adapts the message to their specific needs. Fortune 500 companies in the technical community find him to be particularly valuable, especially those in the defense and manufacturing industries including but not limited to: A.T. Kearney, BAE Systems, Caterpillar, Delphi, E-Z-GO, Ford Motor Corporation, General Dynamics, Honeywell, Hughes Network Systems, Karmann USA, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Rich Products Corporation and Stora Enso. As part of a competitive bid process with Lockheed Martin Shared Services, bc&j solutions, LLC was selected as a preferred vendor for the delivery of negotiation training corporate wide. The Smart Negotiator! program has also been delivered as part of the Presidential Leadership Program for General Dynamics GDATP and BAE Systems Leadership Development Program.
As an Assistant Professor of Speech Communication he published Using History to Teach Small Group Communication in The Speech Communication Teacher. In 1996 he received an outstanding teaching award at George Mason University. In June of 1994, he was one of only 18 scholars nationwide to be selected by CSPAN for the development of a College Level Resource Guide to accompany the reenactment of the Lincoln Douglas Debates. He has served on the board of the Eastern Communication Association and the Virginia Association of Communication Arts & Sciences. He successfully negotiated deals that brought the Russian and British Debate Teams to Northern Virginia as part of their American Tours in 1996 & 1997. In the 1980’s, he was involved in labor negotiations in Washington, DC on behalf of tour guides, bus drivers and chauffeurs. He spent eight years as a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters local 922.
Mr. Rapone graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo and received a Master of Arts from the State University of New York at Brockport in Rhetoric & Public Address. In May 2008, The Virginia Supreme Court Office of Dispute Resolution granted him certification as a mediator in the General District Court of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has successfully mediated over 500 cases with an 84% agreement rate. Additionally, he is a certified mentor qualifying mentees for certification as well as a certified mediation trainer for Fundamental of Mediation. He specializes in labor, landlord tenant and workplace disputes and manages The bc&j Mediation Group.
Debra Rapone has been successfully creating and delivering programs for academic, association and corporate environments for over 30 years. She has a solid background in adult education and learning, workforce training and program development. She is co-developer of The Smart Negotiator!® and is an accomplished effective and dynamic trainer. Prior to starting the education and training firm bc&j solutions, Ms. Rapone served as director of education for a large manufacturing trade association, where she also launched and directed the association's education and training foundation. The negotiations insights from which she draws stem from extensive experience in negotiating contracts with hotels, speakers, trainers and consultants, as well as a multitude of vendors, including publishers, printers, graphic designers, illustrators, and copy editors. Ms. Rapone received a graduate certificate in Arts Management from The American University in Washington DC and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the State University of New York at Geneseo. In May of 2014 she received her certification as a General District Court mediator from the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
