The bc&j Mediation Group are certified mediators that serve a variety of clients involved in Domestic, Commercial or Civil disputes. We are located in Manassas, VA and provide service to the Northern Virginia region. We pride ourselves on the quality of our work, level of professionalism and high success rate. Our mission is twofold.  Firstly we provide mediation services to both pro se & represented parties involved in civil & family disputes who wish to resolve matters expeditiously and avoid unnecessary litigation.  Secondly on the commercial side of the house, we offer a viable avenue for companies to "fix" their problems without costly legal actions. Our mediators can guide you through the negotiation of an agreement that will satisfy the needs of all parties and have "staying" power.  Our team of professionals has experience with small businesses, Fortune 100 companies and government agencies at the Federal & local levels. After the initial screening we will pair you with the best qualified mediator suited to resolve your dispute. The fee structure will vary depending on the nature of your situation. It may be determined that a flat rate is best suited for you or an hourly rate may be required. Fundamentals of Mediation

This is a 20-hour course that prepares the participant to begin the quest for certification as a mediator.  It provides the participant with the theoretical & practical foundation of the mediation process.  The format is highly experiential designed to challenge the participant and is NOT for the casual learner.  At bc&j solutions, LLC we take great pride in your development and look forward to preparing you to join the fraternity of professional certified mediators.  This course is approved by the Supreme Court Office of Dispute Resolution for the 20-hour basic course requirement for certification in Virginia.  Feel free to review the course outline below.  If you are interested in registering for our public offering follow the link for public workshops.

Workplace Mediation for Managers

Workshop Description

Disputes and conflict in today’s work environment have become commonplace. The affects of unresolved workplace disputes can debilitate an organization, ultimately draining its resources—whether it is time, productivity or money. Managers can utilize basic mediation skills to deter situations from escalating and necessitating entry into a formal grievance process. It is important for managers at all levels to possess the tools to be able to effectively address these situations.


This one-day workshop is designed to provide managers with the fundamentals involved in mediation and steps that can be used to implement a mediation process in their organizations. Focus is on development of the skill set utilized by successful mediators and establishing baseline knowledge of the mediation process. To promote maximum transfer of learning, real-world, practical exercises and case studies will be used that provide opportunities for the learner to practice the skills and concepts being introduced and demonstrate mastery. Asking/answering questions, debriefs and discussions are important elements of the sessions.

The Smart Negotiator!- Advanced

Workshop Description

This workshop is specifically designed as a follow-on advanced program for those who have taken and put into practice The Smart Negotiator!. Emphasis is on polishing the application of negotiation skills using complex exercises with a higher degree of challenge and providing each learner with personalized feedback relative to their own negotiation style and skill set. Participants will learn how to adapt their negotiation style to fit the negotiation situation. The non-verbal dimension of negotiation, including body language and the use of time and space will also be addressed. The program can focus on either individual or team negotiations or a combination of both based on client needs. Pre-requisite: The Smart Negotiator! Workshop length: minimum 7-8hrs

Designed to provide maximum transfer of learning, this informative, practical and effective program is instructor-led by an experienced negotiator. The success of the program is derived from minimizing lecture in favor of implementing a series of real-world, practical, customized case studies, some of which are client-specific. Providing learners with important opportunities to practice and master the skills and concepts being introduced, these experiential activities enhance the learning experience yielding behavior change, and ultimately produce higher quality agreements. Debriefing from activities and addressing participant questions are key components of the program.


The Smart Negotiator!

Workshop Description

Negotiating permeates every aspect of the workplace and is a highly valued skill critical to success. This workshop focuses on the negotiation process--a process that remains the same whether negotiating staffing resources with a co-worker or multimillion dollar contracts with vendors. Participants learn to respond with the instincts of a negotiator, properly plan and prepare options, avoid common traps and successfully execute the interactive negotiations stage. Learners will gain an understanding of the qualities shared by successful negotiators, the impact of cultural influences on negotiators, and the important difference between persuading and negotiating. Featuring customized industry specific case studies, learners will have the opportunity to practice their skills. The goal of this workshop is to view the world as a negotiator and to learn to talk-think-act like one. The Smart Negotiator! is a foolproof negotiating system, designed to immediately impact both internal and external workplace negotiations and equip participants with the essential tools to make quality deals and develop valuable partnerships. This workshop provides practical rules, steps and how to's for developing those important and effective win-win negotiation skills.
